Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled Medical Assistant to join our team at WellSpan Health. As a Medical Assistant, you will play a vital role in providing exceptional patient care and supporting our healthcare team.

Key Responsibilities
  • Obtain and document patient vital signs, including temperature, blood pressure, weight, BMI, respirations, and pulse.
  • Collect and process specimens as directed by the provider, ensuring proper handling, storage, and tracking.
  • Ensure patient care areas are adequately stocked with unexpired medical supplies and equipment is in good working condition.
  • Prepare patients for scheduled procedures, ensuring they are properly gowned and instruments and supplies are set up.
  • Administer vaccines, medications, and controlled substances/narcotics as prescribed by the provider, under the direct supervision of a licensed nurse or provider.
  • Document and process prescription requests and refills per protocol.
  • Perform basic office procedures, examinations, and/or tests ordered by the provider, as skill competencies demonstrate competence.
  • Provide patients with standard patient care instructions and education, reviewing with patient and family members as directed by providers.
  • Obtain comprehensive health information from patient/family members to review with providers or clinical resources over the phone.
  • Return calls to patients in a timely manner.
  • Complete pre-visit planning and visit prep according to established guidelines.
  • Efficiently manage daily patient flow to manage fluctuating patient volumes and demands.
Requirements
  • High school diploma
  • Basic Life Support certification upon hire
  • Certificate of completion from an accredited Medical Assistant program (Diploma) or National Medical Assistant Certification upon hire
  • Medical terminology knowledge
  • Proficient communication skills, including SBAR technique
  • Ability to effectively present clinical information to the care team
  • Proficient in navigating and entering information into an electronic health record
  • Models team work, self-motivation, and dependability
  • Able to work independently
