Position Summary
At Mad Science, we are passionate about making learning enjoyable You will have the opportunity to engage with children through exciting activities such as building and launching rockets, showcasing lasers, exploring the states of matter with dry ice, and guiding them in creating slime and other fun materials. Your role will be to ignite curiosity in the next generation of scientists through our hands-on programs that demonstrate the wonders of science.

As a Science Facilitator, you will guide students through an inquiry-based learning approach that includes instructor-led demonstrations, interactive activities, and captivating take-home projects that highlight the relevance of science in everyday life. Mad Science is recognized as the premier provider of enjoyable science programs for elementary-aged children.

This position is part-time to semi-full-time and may vary seasonally. Compensation for all Areas of Business (AOB) is hourly, which includes time for preparation and cleanup. Starting pay ranges from $22.50 to $30 per hour, depending on experience. Teaching five one-hour classes each week can yield approximately $225 to $300 per week. There are multiple opportunities for additional classes and hours for those who are available.

We are currently seeking enthusiastic individuals to join our expanding team to conduct thrilling science, engineering, and technology programs during after-school and morning time slots. Certification as a teacher is not required, although it is appreciated.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Facilitating day camps, in-person workshops, and after-school science enrichment programs for children from preschool through elementary school.
  • Delivering high-energy, engaging, and educational hands-on programs that meet weekly for approximately 8-10 weeks.
  • Traveling to various locations as needed.
  • Enjoying the process of teaching young children about science.
  • Participating in paid training sessions, either virtually or at our office.
  • Attending mandatory weekly staff meetings (paid).
  • Being able to lift and carry up to 25 lbs.
  • Arriving on time for all scheduled activities.
  • Following strict safety and cleanliness protocols.
Qualifications:
  • Experience working with groups of elementary-age children (such as in roles like after-school teacher or camp counselor).
  • Availability for at least two weekday afternoons. While this is a part-time role, it is essential to commit to the duration of any given program.
  • Reliable transportation is necessary for transporting equipment and conducting programs.
  • A minimum of one year of college education is suggested; degrees and graduate degrees are advantageous.
  • A fun, flexible, and outgoing personality is essential.
