Role Summary:
The Point of Care Testing Coordinator (POCC) plays a pivotal role in managing and overseeing all Point of Care Testing (POCT) initiatives across the healthcare system. This position is crucial for ensuring compliance with quality improvement standards, educational initiatives, auditing processes, and maintaining accreditation requirements.
Key Responsibilities:
- Education and Compliance: Conducts thorough quality assessments to ensure adherence to regulatory requirements and institutional policies for maintaining licensure and accreditation in point of care testing.
- Performance Management: Establishes and monitors POC procedures throughout all stages of specimen management, testing, and reporting. Acts as a resource for POC testing, providing guidance on quality control programs to ensure optimal patient outcomes.
- Quality Improvement Initiatives: Engages in the development of testing protocols and keeps abreast of regulatory updates in accordance with CLIA standards and CAP accreditation guidelines. Facilitates training and ongoing education for personnel involved in point of care testing.
- Support for Healthcare Providers: Collaborates with management and medical leadership to assess and recommend new testing instruments and methodologies. Participates in validation efforts and comparative studies as necessary.
Qualifications:
Required:
- Bachelor's Degree in Medical Laboratory Science or a related field.
- 3-5 years of relevant experience in a clinical laboratory setting.
- Specific Degree(s): Medical Technology or Medical Laboratory Science.
Preferred Certifications:
- Certification as a Medical Technologist or Medical Laboratory Scientist, or relevant specialty certification (ASCP or AMT).
