Position Overview

As a vital member of the Public Safety Department, the School Safety Officer plays a crucial role in ensuring the safe passage of school-aged children across busy intersections. This position is under the guidance of the Crossing Guard Supervisor and is essential for maintaining a secure environment for students traveling to and from school.

Key Responsibilities
  • Deliver exceptional service by welcoming and assisting pedestrians, particularly children, in safely navigating designated crosswalks within the community.
  • Effectively communicate traffic regulations and crossing procedures to both students and adults.
  • Monitor and report any incidents, unsafe behaviors, or conditions that may pose risks to children, fellow guards, or the public to appropriate authorities.
  • Engage in additional related duties as necessary.
Qualifications
  • Completion of high school or equivalent education.
  • Access to reliable transportation to assigned posts, with the capability to relocate if needed.
  • Must successfully pass a criminal background check and drug screening.
  • Strong customer service abilities, including the capacity to address inquiries and concerns with professionalism.
  • Effective verbal communication skills, with the ability to articulate ideas clearly.
  • Proficient in problem-solving and maintaining composure under pressure, especially when faced with shifting priorities.
  • Physically fit to walk and stand for extended periods.
