About the Role

Symetra's Finance - Reinsurance Reporting team is seeking a highly technical individual contributor to be a subject matter expert for reinsurance accounting (GAAP, Statutory and Bermuda-based Statutory) treatment of life, annuity, and other reinsurance treaties.

Key Responsibilities
  • Research and document technical accounting issues related to Reinsurance Accounting (GAAP, US Statutory and Bermuda Statutory)
  • Prepare and review technical accounting documentation and presentations related to reinsurance
  • Collaborate closely with Symetra's reporting teams to ensure financial presentation and disclosure accuracy
  • Develop and propose recommendations where judgement in application is required
  • Discuss issues and coordinate with external auditors, as appropriate
Requirements
  • High School Diploma is required
  • A BA/BS in Accounting, or Finance
  • Minimum of 4-5 years of experience in the technical accounting of life and annuity insurance and reinsurance, with significant exposure to complex reinsurance arrangements (such as modco, coinsurance with funds withheld, etc.) as well as offshore reinsurance transactions
  • Proficiency in the fundamentals of accounting principles for life insurance and annuity products
  • CPA or CPA-eligible, preferred
