Job Summary

Kirtland Community College is seeking a dedicated and experienced Academic Advisor to join our team. As an Academic Advisor, you will play a critical role in promoting student success and retention by providing guidance and support to students in achieving their academic goals.

Key Responsibilities
  • Advise students on postsecondary program options, including graduation and transfer requirements.
  • Audit and monitor student academic progress, identifying areas for improvement and providing recommendations for success.
  • Assist students in developing educational plans, including choosing a program of study and clarifying educational goals.
  • Educate students on course planning and registration processes, referring them to available resources as needed.
  • Maintain up-to-date knowledge of college programs and requirements, consulting with transfer institutions as necessary.
  • Develop and interpret Academic Planning Guides, maintaining administrative and program information files.
  • Communicate with high school staff and students to provide information about Kirtland Community College and its programs.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.
Requirements
  • Bachelor's degree in a related field.
  • One to three years of experience in academic advising or related careers in post-secondary education.
  • Ability to learn and use complex computer-based systems and multi-faceted network-related software and database management systems.
  • Demonstrated interpersonal communication skills.
  • Ability to effectively analyze ambiguous information and respond appropriately.
  • Experience in group presentations.
  • Ability to process and maintain highly confidential information.
  • Ability to work effectively with individuals of varying backgrounds, abilities, outlooks, ages, and nationalities.
Working Conditions

Conditions are those of a typical office environment, requiring frequent oral communication with students and colleagues, the ability to enter data and written communications in electronic format in a timely manner, and sufficient mobility to be present and address students, their parents, and fellow professionals at appropriate college and regional functions.
