Electrical Engineer Supporting Hypersonic Wind Tunnel Infrastructure

The Department of Defense (DoD) Test Resource Management Center (TRMC) plays a critical role in supporting the warfighter. The TRMC ensures that DoD components have the appropriate test and evaluation (T&E) infrastructure required to research, develop, field, and maintain military systems.
Recently, the United States has accelerated its efforts to develop air vehicles that travel at hypersonic speeds (greater than Mach 5 or approximately 3,000 miles per hour). To enable these systems, the TRMC has funded several major projects and has established a project management team to modernize hypersonic test infrastructure.
This position is a key member of the project management team, responsible for overseeing the design, construction, and operation of hypersonic wind tunnels. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in electrical engineering, with experience in designing and operating complex test infrastructure.
Key Responsibilities
• Monitor the performance of contractors designing, building, and operating hypersonic wind tunnels
• Contribute to the writing of contract documents, including performance work statements (PWS)
• Develop clear and concise contract documents that enable performers to meet government needs efficiently
• Monitor contract performers during design, construction, and operation of infrastructure
• Utilize Microsoft Teams and SharePoint-based communication and file management systems
• Follow administrative and sensitive data guidelines
• Contribute to monthly reports and briefings on project status
• Travel approximately 20% of the year to performer worksites to observe design, construction, and operations
Requirements
• Bachelor's Degree in Electrical Engineering or related field
• 8 years of experience in electrical engineering, with a focus on designing and operating complex test infrastructure
• Subject matter expert in electrical power distribution, instrumentation, data, and/or control systems
• Broad familiarity with various MEP systems, including electrical power distribution, high-pressure air generation and storage, compressors, boilers, steam generation, industrial heaters, instrumentation and control systems, and more
• Familiarity with system engineering principles and their application to project management
• Familiarity with system safety, hazard analysis, and risk mitigation
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills
• Proficient in Microsoft Office software, including Outlook, Word, PowerPoint, Excel, OneNote, SharePoint, and Teams
• Creative problem solver, organized, and detail-oriented with the ability to multitask
• Hard working and efficient, with the ability to work without direct supervision in a fast-paced environment
• Ability to hold a secret security clearance
Desired Skills
• Familiarity with hypersonic wind tunnels or other complex test and evaluation infrastructure
• Experience monitoring the performance of contractors designing, building, and operating industrial facilities
• Experience working on Department of Defense or Federal Government infrastructure projects
