About the Role

We are seeking a highly skilled Fleet Maintenance Technician to join our Transportation Services team at Denver Public Schools. As a key member of our team, you will be responsible for ensuring the safe and efficient operation of our fleet of vehicles.

Key Responsibilities
  • Perform routine maintenance and repairs on District vehicles, including preventive maintenance, inspections, and repairs.
  • Assist Maintenance Technicians with major repairs, inspections, and service calls, as well as daily fueling and servicing.
  • Conduct operator pre-trip vehicle inspections, checking safety and emergency equipment, and participate in random drug and alcohol testing programs.
  • Complete required forms and paperwork, including maintenance and inspection records, using computerized systems.
  • Maintain a clean and safe work environment, including cleaning tables, scrubbing floors, and disposing of materials.
  • Determine work sequences and prioritize repairs and maintenance activities based on work priority and availability of parts.
  • Communicate and coordinate fleet maintenance schedules and concerns with shop supervisors.
  • Record maintenance activities and ensure maintenance standards are met, using computerized systems.
  • Drive and test drive vehicles, obeying traffic regulations and reporting any accidents or incidents to supervisors.
  • Obtain and maintain related field certifications, such as Automotive Service Excellence (ASE) and fleet maintenance certifications.
Requirements
  • 1-3 years of mechanic experience.
  • Knowledge of maintenance skills, including welding, machine work, electrical and mechanical systems, gasoline and diesel engines, overhaul and rebuild, air and hydraulic brakes, and tire repair.
  • Knowledge of fleet maintenance software and vehicle diagnostic systems.
  • Knowledge of safety issues and regulations when operating and repairing vehicles.
  • Knowledge of Colorado Department of Education (CDE), Department of Transportation (DOT), and Fluid Mechanics & Computational Science (FMCS) rules and regulations.
  • Ability to troubleshoot and technical skills for diagnosis and repair.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with others on a team.
  • Ability to multi-task and complete work with frequent interruptions.
  • Good communication skills, both written and verbal.
  • High degree of integrity in handling confidential information.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office, Google Workspace, and other computer software programs.
  • Bi-lingual in Spanish preferred.
  • A valid State of Colorado commercial driver's license (CDL) - Class A & B with P2S endorsements is required (or the ability to acquire one within 90 days of employment).
Education Requirements
  • High School Diploma or GED certificate.
  • Technical community college graduate in automotive/truck mechanics (1 yr. program), two (2) years first line journeyman level maintenance experience and a full set of tools AND/OR four (4) years of first line (journeyman) maintenance experience and a full set of tools AND/OR a combination of education and experience.
