Position Summary

POSITION TITLE: Staff Accountant

DEPARTMENT: Finance

FLSA STATUS: Non-Exempt

REPORTS TO: Accounting/Payroll Manager

The primary objective of this role is to fulfill the Agency's requirements by executing designated tasks related to general ledger management, bank reconciliations, and internal financial reporting, including cost allocations tied to the Agency's monthly financial statements.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Guarantees the prompt completion of month-end and year-end closing activities for assigned areas, including monthly journal entries and general account reconciliations.
  • Assists in maintaining and monitoring the general ledger for assigned areas.
  • Prepares monthly bank reconciliations for specific accounts, subject to review by the Accounting/Payroll Manager or Controller.
  • Collaborates with payroll to implement necessary allocation adjustments based on completed personnel action requests.
  • Prepares monthly payroll and vacation accrual entries for the Accounting/Payroll Manager's review.
  • Oversees and updates occupancy tables to accurately reflect the occupancy costs associated with each program.
  • Manages allocation tables for the Agency's cell phone, copier, and insurance expenses to ensure accurate cost tracking.
  • Assists in preparing journal entries for review, aimed at allocating indirect and administrative support expenses while reconciling general ledger and subsidiary accounts.
  • Maintains occupancy table information and provides necessary data to the Accounting/Payroll Manager and Budget Controls Manager.
  • Coordinates with internal departments regarding fixed asset monitoring and maintenance.
  • Calculates and monitors monthly depreciation expenses.
  • Supports monthly, quarterly, and annual closing and audit processes.
  • Under the guidance of the Controller and Sr. Director of Administration, processes monthly rental activities and closing items related to multi-family properties in the subsidiary's general ledger.
  • Acts as a backup for the Accounts Receivable Specialist to facilitate deposits on behalf of the Agency.
  • Leads assigned areas in coordinating the year-end audit, collaborating closely with external accounting firms to provide necessary schedules and supporting documentation.

ADDITIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Perform any other duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS

Education: Bachelor's degree in a relevant field; equivalent experience may be considered.

Experience: A minimum of three (3) years in finance-related roles; experience with Financial Edge is preferred.

Skills: Proficient in financial software and MS Office Suite, particularly advanced Excel skills. Strong communication, customer service, and organizational abilities are essential. Must be able to collaborate effectively and demonstrate flexibility and adaptability.

Knowledge: Familiarity with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) and/or fund or governmental accounting practices is required.

Driving Requirements: Preferred use of personal vehicle.

Physical Requirements: Tasks involve sedentary to light work, including some reaching and handling of objects.

Sensory Requirements: Some tasks necessitate visual perception and oral communication abilities.

Environmental Factors: Tasks are generally performed in a controlled environment with minimal exposure to adverse conditions.
