Position Title: Staff Accountant

Department: Finance

FLSA Status: Non-Exempt

Reports To: Accounting/Payroll Manager

The objective of this role is to fulfill the financial reporting needs of the Agency by executing assigned tasks related to general ledger management, bank reconciliation, and internal financial documentation, including cost allocations pertinent to the Agency's monthly financial statements.

Key Responsibilities

  • Ensure the timely completion of month-end and year-end closing processes for designated areas, including but not limited to monthly journal entries and general account reconciliations.
  • Assist in maintaining and monitoring the general ledger for assigned areas.
  • Prepare monthly bank reconciliations for specified accounts for review by the Accounting/Payroll Manager or Controller.
  • Collaborate with payroll to prepare necessary allocation adjustments related to completed personnel action requests.
  • Prepare monthly payroll and vacation accrual entries for review by the Accounting/Payroll Manager.
  • Oversee and update occupancy tables that track applicable occupancy costs for each CRT location in relation to the respective programs.
  • Manage and revise allocation tables for the Agency's cell phone, copier, and insurance expenses to ensure accurate tracking of costs for each program.
  • Assist in preparing journal entries for review by the Accounting/Payroll Manager or Controller, aimed at allocating indirect and administrative support expenses and reconciling general ledger and subsidiary accounts.
  • Maintain information in occupancy tables and provide necessary data to the Accounting/Payroll Manager and Budget Controls Manager.
  • Coordinate with internal departments regarding fixed asset monitoring and maintenance.
  • Monitor and calculate monthly depreciation expenses.
  • Assist with monthly, quarterly, and annual closing and audit activities.
  • Under the supervision of the Controller and Sr. Director of Administration, process monthly rental activities and closing items related to CRT's multi-family properties in the respective subsidiary's general ledger.
  • Act as a backup for the Accounts Receivable Specialist to facilitate deposits on behalf of CRT.
  • Lead assigned areas in coordinating the year-end audit, working closely with external accounting firms to provide necessary lead schedules and supporting documentation related to the general ledger.

  • Perform all other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

Education: Bachelor's degree in a relevant field. Equivalent experience may substitute for education.

Experience: A minimum of three (3) years of finance-related experience. Experience with Financial Edge is preferred.

Skills: Proficiency in financial software and MS Office Suite, particularly advanced Excel skills. Strong communication, customer service, and organizational abilities are essential. Must demonstrate flexibility, adaptability, and teamwork.

Knowledge: Familiarity with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) and/or fund or governmental accounting practices is required.

Driving Requirements: Preferred Agency Vehicle: No; Employee's Own Vehicle: Preferred.

Physical Ability: Tasks involve sedentary to light work, including some reaching, handling, and feeling of objects and materials.

Sensory Requirements: Some tasks require visual perception and discrimination, as well as oral communication abilities.

Environmental Factors: Tasks are typically performed without exposure to adverse environmental conditions.
