Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled Environmental Engineer to join our team at the Facilities Design and Construction Center in Norfolk, VA. As an Environmental Engineer, you will work on design-build projects, serving as a project point of contact for customers, activity, command, and contracting teams. You will also be responsible for environmental project management, including procurement, construction, and improvement projects for environmental restoration, compliance, planning, and sustainability.

Responsibilities
  • Act as the project point of contact for customers, activity, command, and contracting teams.
  • Develop and implement effective measures and strategies to meet the targets outlined in the Coast Guard's Operational Sustainability Performance Plan (OSPP).
  • Provide expertise for major in-water and shore-side Coast Guard construction projects in the areas of hazardous material identification and abatement, remediation of known and discovered contamination, and proper administration of construction project-generated waste streams.
  • Assist with the effective and efficient execution and management of the Coast Guard's multifaceted environmental program, incorporating broad programmatic aspects of environmental planning, environmental compliance, environmental restoration, and management of environmental liabilities and environmental sustainability/stewardship.
Requirements
  • U.S. Citizenship is required.
  • Males born after 12/31/1959 must be registered for Selective Service.
  • The position requires a valid state driver's license.
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain COR certification.
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain a CG-issued NEPA Warrant.
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain an OSHA 40-hour certification.
Qualifications

The ideal candidate will have a degree in a professional engineering field, such as environmental engineering, civil engineering, or a related field. The candidate must also have at least one year of specialized experience in environmental engineering, including experience in project management, environmental compliance, and sustainability.

The Office of Personnel Management (OPM) must authorize employment offers made to current or former political appointees. If you are currently, or have been within the last 5 years, a political Schedule A, Schedule C, Non-career SES or Presidential Appointee employee in the Executive Branch, you must disclose this information to the Human Resources Office.

This position has a positive education requirement. You must provide your transcripts to verify your education. If you are including education on your resume, report only attendance and/or degrees from schools accredited by accrediting institutions recognized by the U.S. Department of Education.

Foreign education may be used to meet the requirements. You must show proof the education credentials have been deemed to be at least equivalent to that gained in conventional U.S. education programs.
