Employnet, Inc. is seeking a skilled SMT DFA Engineer to enhance our manufacturing team. In this role, you will collaborate closely with design, process, and manufacturing teams to ensure the efficient assembly of printed circuit boards (PCBs) while optimizing designs for manufacturability.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Design for Assembly (DFA): Evaluate PCB designs and provide insights to enhance manufacturability and efficiency in SMT production.
  • SMT Process Development: Create, refine, and sustain SMT assembly processes, including stencil design, solder paste application, component placement, and reflow soldering, ensuring top-quality output.
  • Manufacturing Support: Offer technical assistance and troubleshooting for SMT assembly lines. Collaborate with production teams to identify and resolve issues related to assembly defects, component fit, or solderability.
  • Continuous Improvement: Lead initiatives to enhance processes, increase yield, and reduce cycle times in SMT production. Implement best practices and Lean Manufacturing principles to boost overall efficiency.
  • DFM Analysis: Perform Design for Manufacturability (DFM) analysis on both new and existing products, identifying design and process risks, and proposing solutions to minimize production disruptions and enhance yields.
  • Equipment Selection & Maintenance: Recommend upgrades or new purchases of SMT equipment to improve assembly capabilities, ensuring machinery is properly calibrated and maintained.
  • Process Documentation: Develop Manufacturing Process Instructions (MPI) and rework instructions, ensuring all necessary documentation and data are available for assembly jobs.
  • Assembly Management System: Collaborate with the Assembly Management Team to implement and monitor the Assembly Management System.

Requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or a related field; equivalent experience will be considered.
  • 5+ years in SMT/DFA engineering within a high-volume manufacturing environment.
  • Strong understanding of SMT assembly processes, including stencil printing, pick-and-place, reflow soldering, and automated optical inspection (AOI).
  • Proficiency in Design for Manufacturability (DFM) and DFA principles.
  • Experience with SMT programming, equipment setup, and troubleshooting.
  • Familiarity with PCB design tools such as Altium Designer or Cadence Allegro.
  • Knowledge of schematics, PCB fabrication drawings, and electronic components.
  • Ability to evaluate Gerber files.
  • Certifications: IPC-A-610 or J-STD-001 certifications preferred.
