Job Summary:

The Community Engagement Specialist will be responsible for developing and implementing strategies to engage the community, ensuring the identification of resources, producing educational materials, and coordinating services for vulnerable immigrant clients through community outreach, coordination with partners, referrals, and data management to ensure effective and holistic client care and representation. This position will also support the legal team in various activities and assist as needed to support services provided to clients. Outreach is a communication bridge between CCANO's programs and community groups, service providers, institutions, and community members aiming to build partnerships, share information, and connect people to supportive services.


Key Responsibilities:

  • Develop and maintain relationships with community partners to maintain and develop group programming and community referrals.
  • Develop and support relationships with Catholic parishes and other faith-based organizations.
  • Provide regular updates to program staff, CCANO programs, and community collaborators, as well as share or host and develop content for the program's social media page.
  • Coordinate services with key stakeholders, including liaising and building a network of relationships with other professionals, paraprofessionals, legal, and social service providers.
  • Represent the agency at events, coalition meetings, and taskforces, participate in community outreach events, which may include talks, presentations, resource fairs, and interviews.

Additional Responsibilities:

  • Manage staff associated with the IMMREFESL information line and reception.
  • Support and provide information for the information lines and develop strategies to improve services and information offered through the IMMREFESL information line.
  • Develop and offer the Know Your Rights (KYR) program and train staff and volunteers to provide KYR services.
  • Assist immigration legal services with logistics and coordination of group-based client activities, such as community orientation (CO) and legal clinics.
  • Lead virtual New Asylee Benefits Orientations and manage private and community donations and maintain records of donations.

Requirements:

  • Applicants must be self-motivated, engaging, and organized, with excellent communication skills and knowledge of the community.
  • Good knowledge of relevant community resources in the Greater New Orleans area and beyond.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook, and ability to learn immigration database/software.
  • Bilingual in Spanish and English (verbal and written) required.
  • Degree in a relevant legal or social science field from an accredited institution preferred; High school diploma required.
  • Proven experience in community outreach or community education, program coordination, management, and supervision.
  • Experience collecting data and reporting on specific tasks and projects.
  • Excellent oral and written communication and interpersonal skills, including maintaining effective work relationships.
  • Strong management and organizational skills, and ability to work across all levels of management and staff.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills, including culturally competent and strong interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work with a culturally diverse population and sensitivity to the special needs of multi-cultural immigrant children, adults, and families.
  • Ability to work independently to manage a substantial workload with deadlines.
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail for a fast-paced and high-volume environment.
  • Must have a valid driver's license, insurance, a clean driving record, and personal transportation. Position may require local and long-distance travel and ability to travel with limited notice.
  • Duties require some evening and weekend events.
