Position Overview

This role involves executing daily culinary service tasks to fulfill customer and patient meal schedules, ensuring timely, precise, and courteous service in accordance with the standards of University Hospitals. The individual will prioritize maintaining a tidy, clean, and hygienic workspace, applying proper food safety protocols and effectively utilizing departmental equipment.

Key Responsibilities
  • Conducts daily food service tasks essential for meeting customer and patient meal timelines.
  • Ensures a tidy, clean, and sanitary environment suitable for handling food and service items, including mopping, sweeping, and dishwashing.
  • Operates departmental equipment safely, efficiently, and confidently.
  • Adheres to hospital and departmental policies and procedures, including food safety regulations.
  • Remains updated with training requirements and safety in-services.
  • Addresses internal and external customer needs promptly, accurately, and courteously, following department and University Hospitals service standards.
  • Demonstrates capability in advanced skill areas such as diet office and/or cashier roles.
  • Exhibits strong multitasking abilities, managing multiple workstations and assignments.
  • Possesses the ability to train fellow employees.
General Requirements
  • Performs additional duties as assigned.
  • Complies with all organizational policies and standards.

  • Must adhere to all regulations for the safe and secure maintenance of Protected Health Information (PHI) for patients. Annual training, the UH Code of Conduct, and UH policies are in place to guide appropriate PHI usage in the workplace.
Qualifications:
Education
  • High School Diploma or GED preferred
Experience
  • Completion of Customer Service training preferred
  • 2+ years of experience in food service preferred
  • 2+ years of customer interaction experience preferred
  • Prior cash handling experience preferred
Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities
  • Proficient in the use of computers and systems utilized in Nutrition Services preferred
  • Ability to follow directions effectively required
  • Strong guest relations skills required
  • Previous cash handling skills preferred
  • Effective communication with team members and customers required
  • Time management skills required
  • Able to lift, push, or pull up to 50 pounds required
  • Able to stand, reach, and stoop for up to 8 hours at a time required
