Newborn Hearing Screening Job Summary

At Tucson Medical Center, we are seeking a skilled Hearing Screening Specialist to join our team. As a key member of our Allied Health department, you will play a vital role in administering automated hearing screenings to newborns in the NICU and Mom/Baby units prior to discharge from the hospital.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Administer testing to determine if infant needs follow-up hearing screening or evaluation.
  • Assure adequate supplies are available each day.
  • Communicate with nursing unit team prior to seeing patient to assure testing is appropriate at that time.
  • Provide written documentation of test results in patient medical record as required by department.
  • Clean equipment after each use based upon manufacturer's instructions for use.
  • Provide education within scope of practice to parent(s) on what to expect from newborn hearing screening procedure.
  • Participate in training related to patient experience, test administration, and equipment cleaning/maintenance.
  • Coordinate with other service areas to ensure proper patient care.
  • Demonstrate sensitivity to patient comfort and privacy.

Requirements:
  • High School Degree.
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required.
