POSITION OVERVIEW:

As a Parking Enforcement Specialist, you will operate under general supervision to uphold local and state parking regulations. This role necessitates regular interaction with the public, requiring individuals to engage courteously and effectively while positively representing the City. The position involves various law enforcement support tasks as needed. Although incumbents wear a uniform and badge, they do not carry firearms and lack the authority to detain individuals.

WORKING CONDITIONS:

This is a part-time, at-will position with no benefits, limited to under 1,000 hours annually. Work schedules may vary significantly, and assignments can be year-round or seasonal.

RECRUITMENT PROCESS:

  1. Written Examination
  2. Panel Interview
  3. Background Investigation and Polygraph Examination
  4. Interview with the Police Chief or designee
  5. Medical Examination, including a drug screening upon conditional employment offer

Candidates who successfully navigate all stages of the selection process will be placed on an eligibility list for potential hiring, valid for one year. The selection process may take several months to complete.

IMPORTANT CONSIDERATIONS:

A thorough background check and polygraph examination will be conducted for candidates under consideration. Recent illegal activities, including drug use or theft, may disqualify applicants. A medical examination and drug screening will occur upon a conditional offer of employment.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Monitor designated areas to identify vehicles violating parking laws.
  • Issue citations for illegal parking and enforce regulations during street sweeping operations.
  • Coordinate the towing of abandoned or improperly parked vehicles, preparing necessary reports.
  • Provide information and respond to public inquiries regarding parking regulations.
  • Document and report any criminal activities, vandalism, or other community concerns.
  • Assist with traffic control duties as required.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Applicants should possess a high school diploma and at least six months of experience in a public-facing role, particularly in handling challenging interactions. A valid California Class C Driver's License and a clean driving record are mandatory. Enrollment in the DMV Pull Notice program is required, along with obtaining a California Law Enforcement Teletype Systems (CLETS) certificate within three months of employment.

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:

Successful candidates must pass a background investigation, polygraph, and medical examination. The work schedule may include irregular hours, weekends, and holidays.
