Overview:
The Radiology Technician Intern is responsible for delivering exceptional care to patients requiring imaging services by generating high-quality radiographic images (including chest, extremities, and spine) under the supervision of a Radiologist and Radiology Technologist. This role is essential in maintaining an efficient workflow, assisting technologists during various procedures, and performing necessary clerical tasks such as answering calls and entering data into the system. Additionally, the intern will transport patients to and from the imaging area and uphold cleanliness and organization within the department.
Key Responsibilities:
• Adheres to the OneCHRISTUS Competencies, demonstrating leadership in self-management and collaboration with others.
• Exhibits comprehensive knowledge of human anatomy, imaging techniques, and positioning for approved radiographic procedures.
• Implements universal precautions and infection control measures with each patient, ensuring proper disposal of contaminated materials and maintaining equipment sterility.
• Ensures accurate patient identification by consistently verifying ID bracelets and identifiers before conducting exams.
• Follows departmental protocols while transporting patients, safeguarding them from potential harm and ensuring their privacy and comfort throughout the process.
• Introduces self to patients, explains procedures, and addresses any wait times, treating each individual with dignity and respect.
• Prepares images for interpretation by processing and transmitting them to the PACS system promptly after the examination.
• Maintains a smooth workflow within the department, facilitating timely patient care and maximizing productivity without compromising quality.
• Accurately records all examinations in the RIS and PACS systems immediately upon completion, ensuring proper documentation.
• Conducts patient assessments before, during, and after procedures to monitor their condition.
• Completes all assigned tasks by the end of the shift, ensuring that images are ready for review, rooms are cleaned, and supplies are restocked.
• Assists technologists with patient handling and preparation for various imaging exams.
• Engages in effective communication by reviewing departmental emails and addressing any issues with supervisors.
• Complies with regulations set forth by CMS, TJC, ACR, and TDSHS, reporting any discrepancies to the department supervisor.
• Demonstrates responsible use of hospital property, adhering to manufacturer guidelines, promptly reporting any equipment issues, and conserving supplies to minimize waste.
• Observes hospital policies regarding attendance, appearance, safety, and infection control, participating in required training and meetings.
• Upholds the CHRISTUS Health Guidelines related to HIPAA, ensuring the confidentiality of Protected Health Information (PHI).
• Completes all educational assignments in a timely manner.
Qualifications:
- High school diploma or equivalent; currently enrolled in an accredited Radiology Technology program.
- Prior experience in a hospital setting is preferred.
- American Heart Association BLS certification is required.
- TMB Non-Certified Radiology Technician status is required.
