The Support Specialist collaborates closely with the Lead Educator to enhance effective teaching methodologies, classroom dynamics, and assessment strategies for children aged 3-5 years. This role is pivotal in delivering age-appropriate educational experiences, ensuring the safety and well-being of children in the classroom, and fostering a nurturing and inclusive environment that meets the diverse needs of each child in accordance with relevant standards.

Compensation begins at $16.20 per hour, with shifts available Monday through Friday, including morning and late afternoon hours.

We are particularly interested in candidates who are bilingual in English and Spanish.

Key Responsibilities

  • Encourages and exemplifies high-quality educational practices that promote readiness for academic success.
  • Utilizes culturally responsive teaching strategies that honor the backgrounds of all children and families, ensuring they feel valued and included.
  • Maintains vigilant supervision of children's needs, prioritizing their health and safety at all times.

  • Adheres to all regulatory standards and best practices for delivering safe, high-quality programming.
  • Engages regularly with the classroom team, including families, volunteers, and staff, to enhance collaborative efforts.
  • Assists in gathering and analyzing various data sources to inform instructional practices and support child-centered learning.
  • Participates in ongoing professional development and continuous quality improvement initiatives, identifying resources and methods to address the diverse needs of children.
  • Contributes to recruitment and retention efforts, supporting the YMCA's mission and operational goals.

Lesson Development and Classroom Oversight

  • Works alongside the Lead Educator to create lesson plans that incorporate objectives, activities, and outcomes, addressing health, nutrition, mental health, and family engagement.
  • Supports the Lead Educator in delivering high-quality, developmentally appropriate learning activities that encourage active participation and foster holistic development.
  • Takes initiative in the absence of the Lead Educator.
  • Utilizes observational data to assist in planning engaging early learning experiences tailored to each child's needs.
  • Helps leverage the classroom environment and documentation to enhance teaching and learning practices.
  • Implements planned studies or projects for in-depth exploration of specific topics.
  • Maintains a clean, safe, and stimulating classroom environment that promotes independence and self-directed learning.
  • Assists with classroom organization, management, and material labeling.
  • Contributes to the quarterly inventory of classroom supplies and selects materials that support educational goals.
