Housing Stability Specialist

About the Role:
The Housing Stability Specialist at U.S. VETS plays a pivotal role in assisting veterans and their families navigate the complex housing process, ensuring they secure permanent housing and maintain stability.
Key Responsibilities:
- Liaison between Programs and VA:**
- Closely Collaborate with HUD-VASH Partners**: Attend case conferencing, work closely with assigned VA Social Workers on veteran clients, and develop positive relationships with landlords, property managers, and residential real estate specialists.
- Document Case Files**:
- Housing Search and Consultations:** Consider veteran needs for housing search of available inventory, consult with landlords and property management offices, and compile client information, rental market data, and housing trends to provide valuable insights.
- Case Management Services**:
- Engage Veterans Across the Housing Process:** Meet with veterans regularly, conduct outreach to engage missing veterans, assess for housing choice, tenant-screening barriers, and strengths, and assist with locating housing, viewing units, collecting documents, and applying for units.
- Submit Required Documents:** Assist veterans' access to incentives, move-in costs, and lease signings, and provide up to 1 month of housing stability case management before transitioning fully to HUD VASH point of contact.
- Support Basic Needs and Referrals:** Provide linkages to VA and community-based services to pursue healthcare, public benefits, utility discounts, legal services, employment programs, and other supportive services.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in Social Services/Social Work or a related field.
- Experience working with low-income and/or homeless populations, preferably those in subsidized housing arrangements and/or supportive housing programs.
- Proficient typing and computer skills, including Microsoft Office 365 (Outlook/Word/Excel).
- Ability to work flexible hours, including evenings and weekends, and possess strong communication, listening, and organizational skills.
- Access to reliable personal transportation required, including a Valid driver's license; must meet company insurance requirements and complete a provided driver training course.
Estimated Salary:** $55,000 - $65,000 per year, depending on location and experience.
