Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled and detail-oriented Switchboard Operator/Dispatcher to join our team at Northern Arizona Healthcare Corporation. As a key member of our hospital's communications team, you will be responsible for providing exceptional customer service, dispatching security personnel, and monitoring various communications systems.

Key Responsibilities
  • Dispatching
    • Perform overhead paging, in-house paging, and announcements to ensure timely and effective communication.
    • Monitor and respond to alarm systems, including cardiac arrest, stroke alerts, fire alarms, and other critical incidents.
    • Dispatch security personnel to routine and emergency calls, including combative patients, fights in progress, and suicidal/homicidal patients.
    • Participate in drills and training exercises to ensure preparedness for emergency situations.
  • Communications
    • Operate a multi-line telephone device and respond to administrative line telephone calls, prioritizing and resolving issues efficiently.
    • Communicate effectively with callers, using TDD (text telephone device) for hearing or speech impaired individuals.
    • Retrieve information from computerized resources to respond to queries and answer questions.
    • Provide 411 assistance for employees, patients, and community members.
  • Monitoring
    • Monitor surveillance systems for security purposes and review past events to ensure patient/visitor safety.
    • Monitor various communications equipment to ensure proper function and troubleshoot issues as needed.
  • Documentation
    • Log and search lost and found items for patients in the Lost and Found database.
    • Update the on-call list in PBX and maintain a log of patient expirations.
    • Prepare reports for the director as requested.
  • Compliance/Safety
    • Report safety-related incidents in a timely manner through the Midas/RDE tool.
    • Attend safety-related training programs and perform work in a safe manner.
    • Monitor the work environment for possible safety issues and ensure others are performing work safely.
    Requirements
    • High School Diploma or GED
    • Sufficient prior experience with multi-line telephone or switchboard operations
    • Minimum typing speed of 35 words per minute
    • Experience with Microsoft Windows workstation environments and MS Office products (preferred)
