Optical Sorting Equipment Programmer

POSITION SUMMARY:

The Optical Sort Programming Technician plays a crucial role in the operational efficiency of our optical sorting machinery. This hands-on position involves programming, mechanical adjustments, troubleshooting, and offering operational support for all optical sorting systems. The primary goal is to enhance the functionality of our sorting equipment, thereby improving efficiency and minimizing interruptions in the production process. The technician will ensure compliance with processes, uphold product quality, and adhere to food safety standards while following all safety protocols.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Possess comprehensive knowledge of programming protocols, capabilities, and optimal production practices for all optical sorting machinery (including Satakes, 3Us, Sortexes, Qcifeyes, etc.).
• Analyze quality control data from various optical sorting machines and utilize this information to guide production improvements.
• Conduct regular assessments of sorting machinery, reporting on effectiveness, cleanliness, product flow rates, and identifying areas for enhancement.
• Engage with production teams to communicate the status and quality of sorting operations, ensuring proper maintenance and cleanliness of equipment.
• Assist in the creation of training materials and standard operating procedures for operators to enhance their understanding of best practices.
• Contribute to the development of innovative sorting strategies.
• Alert supervisors or management regarding any production quality issues.
• Occasionally operate a forklift for product testing purposes.
• Provide remote support for optical sorting systems as needed.
• Report any program discrepancies or opportunities for improvement to the technical system manager.
• Perform additional duties as required by company needs.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

• A minimum of five years of experience in production or operations.
• Proficient in MS Office and Excel.
• Preferred experience with color sorting equipment, focusing on operational, mechanical, and technical aspects, including the theory of optical sorting and machine fault identification.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS AND WORK ENVIRONMENT:

This role requires the ability to perform essential functions, including sitting, walking, standing, climbing stairs, and reaching. The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 10 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. Vision requirements include close vision, distance vision, color vision, and depth perception. The primary work environment is within a manufacturing setting, which may involve exposure to high noise levels and varying temperatures.
