Position Summary

The Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) delivers professional nursing care to residents of all ages in long-term care settings, under the guidance of a registered nurse, advanced practice provider, or physician. Demonstrates understanding of nursing principles applicable to residents in the relevant clinical environment. Exhibits proficiency and operates within the full spectrum of nursing expertise, employing appropriate age and population-specific standards in relation to the physical and psychosocial needs of residents as outlined in care plans. Capable of conducting assessments to evaluate data reflective of residents' conditions and providing necessary care. Demonstrates the ability to identify issues, propose solutions, and respond effectively in emergency situations.

Ensures the health, comfort, and safety of residents. Contributes to resident assessments and administers medications or treatments as prescribed. Provides technical support to healthcare professionals as required. Records resident interactions and outcomes related to care, medication, behavior, activity, and dietary needs. Skilled in fostering and maintaining effective working relationships with residents, healthcare providers, and the community. Able to collaborate effectively with professional and support personnel as part of an interdisciplinary care team. Communicates clearly while maintaining confidentiality of sensitive information. Advises residents, family members, and/or resident advocates, under the direction of a registered nurse, advanced practice provider, or physician on prevention and treatment strategies. Knowledgeable in resident education principles to develop self-care programs. Performs additional related duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Graduation from an accredited practical nursing program as a Licensed Practical Nurse is required. An associate degree in practical nursing is preferred.

If the position necessitates IV therapy/management skills, the following is required in North Dakota: graduation from a Board-approved AASPN program where IV therapy is included in the curriculum or completion of an IV Therapy course sanctioned by the North Dakota Board of Nursing.

Must have completed a pre-licensure nursing program that included supervised clinical experience across the lifespan or possess a minimum of 400 hours of experience as an LPN in another facility. Specific services/positions may have additional educational, training, or experience requirements.

Currently holds an unencumbered Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) license with the State Nursing Board and/or possesses multi-state licensure privileges. Must obtain and maintain required department-specific competencies and certifications. Completes necessary annual continuing education units (CEU) and competency training requirements of the department and facility.
