Armed Security Officer Job Overview

The Armed Security Officer is responsible for fulfilling local, state, and federal obligations while serving as a law enforcement officer. The core responsibilities of this role encompass a variety of tasks, including but not limited to: responding to emergencies; enforcing applicable laws; conducting patrols, inspections, and searches; managing traffic enforcement and investigations; detaining and transporting individuals; providing protective services such as safeguarding company-owned facilities and assets; ensuring the security of equipment and materials; controlling access to installations by personnel and visitors; and executing additional duties as assigned. The officer is equipped with a sidearm, shotgun, or other necessary weapons.

Key Responsibilities

Adhere to all organizational personnel and safety protocols, executing all assigned tasks in a secure manner.Report to duty in the designated uniform, equipped with all necessary issued gear.Utilize appropriate force when necessary, including lethal force.Participate in shift briefings, receive assigned posts, and note any special instructions.Execute general and specific orders for the assigned post.Communicate effectively via radio, telephone, and in person as per directives.Engage with the public and government officials as required.Provide access control, manage traffic, and perform both foot and vehicle patrols as part of armed security operations.Maintain the cleanliness and orderliness of the uniform and assigned equipment.Comply with relevant standard operating procedures and regulations concerning the security of weapons, facilities, personnel, and property.Conduct inspections of personnel, vehicles, buildings, and packages.Be prepared to work flexible hours, including weekends and holidays as necessary.Qualifications

High School Diploma or GED is required.Applicants must be at least 21 years old.Preferred qualifications include: Two years of service in the United States Armed Forces or a combination of two years of experience in physical security (armed or unarmed) and military service, or an Associate's Degree in a Security or Law Enforcement-related field, or successful completion of a police officer's basic training academy.Possession and maintenance of a valid state driver's license is required.Eligibility for National Security Clearance at the Secret level is mandatory.Must meet or exceed the Minimum Medical and Physical Standards for Armed Security Officers.Successful qualification with a 9 mm semi-automatic pistol, M4 semi-automatic rifle, and shotgun as per training center standards is necessary.Completion of the Active Shooter Threat Training Program is required.Passing initial and random drug tests is mandatory.Successful completion of initial psychological evaluations is required.

Essential Skills and Abilities:

Proficient in operating personal computers and standard office equipment.Familiarity with various software applications including word processing, spreadsheets, databases, and email.Ability to approach others tactfully; remain composed under pressure; treat individuals with respect and consideration; accept responsibility for actions; and follow through on commitments.
