  • About the Role
  • The Construction Materials Testing Project Manager oversees lab and field tasks to ensure compliance with standards, conducts maintenance and testing for accreditation, and manages test report distribution.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct tests following ASTM, AASHTO, or similar standards.
  • Evaluate results for specification compliance.
  • Perform field inspections on construction projects.
  • Test soil, concrete, asphalt, and aggregates.
  • Communicate proactively with contractors and clients.
  • Monitor work procedures for specification adherence.
  • Provide daily reports on observations and test results.
  • Analyze data accurately for relevance.
  • Demonstrate self-motivation and work independently.
  • Observe and test according to industry standards and procedures.
  • Document field observations and test results precisely.
  • Prepare and submit daily reports after thorough review.
  • Communicate regularly with clients, contractors, and team members.
  • Interpret construction plans, specifications, and reports.
  • Address field challenges and support the team effectively.
  • Consult with project managers and coordinate findings.
  • Maintain and calibrate equipment as required.
  • Follow safety regulations and project-specific policies.
  • Conduct pre-task planning before field visits.
  • Ensure quality standards in all tasks.

Requirements

  • Min 5 years of materials testing and/or inspection experience, especially in asphalt.
  • Ability to interpret construction plans/drawings, project specifications, and industry testing standards (ASTM and ASHTO).
  • Engineering degree preferred but not required.
  • Preference for Professional Engineer certification or open to pursue.
  • Capable of regularly lifting 50+ pounds and occasional overnight or out-of-state travel may be necessary.
