Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Art Instructor to join our team at the Exceptional Children's Foundation. The successful candidate will be responsible for providing high-quality art instruction and guidance to adults with varying degrees of learning, behavioral, emotional, and developmental disabilities.

Key Responsibilities
  • Implement individual artistic goals and ensure artists' safety during operating hours of the Art Center.
  • Provide instruction in various art mediums, including drawing, animation, video art, digital art, and 2D design.
  • Assist artists in maintaining progress notes and participating in meetings and in-services as assigned.
  • Supervise artists during arrival, departure, break, and lunchtime.
  • Set up and prepare equipment for daily use and maintain a clean and organized studio area.
  • Participate in staff meetings to identify and implement artistic, educational, psychological, and social objectives for each artist.
  • Follow protocol and policies in assisting artists during incidents or seizures and employ NCI procedures as needed.
Requirements
  • Bachelor's degree in a related field and demonstrable 2D and digital art techniques.
  • At least six months of experience in studio work, teaching, or related fields.
  • Knowledge of one art specialty area and digital art.
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills to teach adult artists.
  • Availability to teach all artists in the Art Center.
  • Computer skills, including email and video calls.
Work Environment

The Art Center is a program for adults with varying degrees of learning, behavioral, emotional, and developmental disabilities. Employees may encounter artists who are in crisis, exhibiting emotional/psychological distress, or behaving in an aggressive manner. The work environment may include frequent interruptions, loud noise, varying indoor temperature, and drafts.

Physical Requirements
  • Mobility to circulate among artists for approximately 80% of work shift.
  • Teach visual art and demonstrate techniques.
  • Communicate in person and over the telephone, email, and video calls.
  • Regularly push, pull, and lift up to 60 lbs. with assistance.
  • Ability to push artists in wheelchairs and assist non-ambulatory artists with transferring to and from wheelchairs.
