Surgical Technologist-Level II

We are seeking a highly skilled Surgical Technologist-Level II to join our team at Elmhurst Hospital Center. As a key member of our surgical team, you will play a critical role in ensuring the safe and effective conduct of invasive surgical procedures.
Responsibilities- Prepare the operating room and sterile field for surgical procedures, including setting up surgical supplies, instruments, and equipment using sterile technique.
- Assist healthcare professionals in receiving, labeling, and verifying sterile solutions and medications to be administered during surgery.
- Verify patient identity, correct surgical site, and correct surgical procedure.
- Assist in moving and positioning patients for surgery, adhering to established safety guidelines.
- Engage in appropriate gowning and gloving procedures in the perioperative setting.
- Assist healthcare professionals in performing non-invasive preparation of the skin's surface and draping patients for surgery.
- Anticipate instrument needs and hand instruments and other sterile supplies to the surgeon, maintaining an accurate count of sponges, needles, and instruments.
- Assist in the surgeon's provision of hemostasis during surgery.
- Maintain and monitor surgical asepsis during all surgical procedures, adhering to established guidelines.
- Prepare and apply bandages and sterile and non-sterile dressings to incision sites, as directed by the surgeon.
- May assist with transferring patients to the recovery room following surgery, providing nursing care as necessary and appropriate.
- Properly care for and handle specimens taken for laboratory analysis.
- May assist with cleaning the operating room and replenishing supplies once procedures are complete.
- May operate sterilizers, lights, suction machines, and electrosurgical units, as well as assist with diagnostic equipment.
- Participate in staff development activities as required.
- Holds and maintains a Certified Surgical Technologist (CST) credential administered by the National Board of Surgical Technology and Surgical Assisting (NBSTSA), or
- Successful completion of a nationally accredited educational program for surgical technologists or an appropriate training program for surgical technology in the United States Army, Navy, Air Force, Marine Corps, Coast Guard, or Public Health Service Commissioned Corps, and holds and maintains a certified surgical technologist credential administered by a nationally accredited surgical technologist credentialing organization other than the NBSTSA.
