Position Summary

This role as a Developer will concentrate on technologies within our internal developer platform, known as the Enterprise Core Platform. The selected candidate will be integral to a cross-functional agile development team, responsible for the design, architecture, and implementation of various cloud-native components. The ideal applicant will be a proactive, collaborative team player with strong problem-solving skills.

Cloud-native systems are engineered to excel in dynamic, virtualized cloud environments, leveraging Platform as a Service (PaaS) infrastructure and managed services. The developer will be proficient in these technologies and possess the ability to swiftly adapt and learn new ones. The Core Platform is a nascent initiative, requiring technologies and methodologies that may be unfamiliar to many at Expeditors but are established in the broader technology landscape.

Key Responsibilities

  • Design, test, and implement components of the Enterprise Core Platform
  • Develop cloud-based microservices to align with the platform's vision
  • Provide adaptable solutions that prioritize speed, scalability, and agility
  • Collaborate with various development teams, guiding them on platform migrations and services
  • Maintain awareness of diverse cloud-native technologies and apply them appropriately
  • Act as a cooperative member of a highly motivated and agile team
  • Embrace the agile mindset by stepping beyond traditional roles to assist where necessary
  • Monitor technology trends/tools and propose enhancements when suitable
  • Engage in R&D initiatives to introduce new tools to the Core Platform
  • Support and participate in DevOps practices and processes

This position is on-site and requires candidates to be local or willing to relocate, with no relocation assistance provided.

Qualifications

  • 5+ years of experience in a software development role within a team setting
  • Proficiency in web development
  • Demonstrated knowledge and experience with:
    • Object-oriented analysis and design
    • Relational database concepts and SQL
    • Communicating effectively with both technical and non-technical audiences
  • Strong Java programming skills
  • Experience with GitLab and GitLab CI/CD pipelines, as well as GitOps
  • Familiarity with the Kubernetes ecosystem
  • Experience in developing, testing, integrating, and refining CI/CD pipelines
  • Self-motivated with a proactive approach; a bias toward action
  • Willingness to explore new ideas, iterate, and refine solutions
  • Understanding of design principles for scalability, performance, security, and reliability
  • A collaborative team player who can also work independently
  • Willingness to transcend role boundaries and contribute where needed

Desired Qualifications

  • Experience supporting environments utilizing cloud infrastructure technologies, particularly Azure
  • Familiarity with the Kafka ecosystem
  • Knowledge of Kubernetes operators
  • Experience with Spring, Spring Boot, and dependency injection
  • Understanding of operating systems, including Linux, preferably RHEL7+
  • Scripting experience, especially in shell and Python
  • Declarative environment management using Terraform (experience with Pulumi or Crossplane is a plus)
  • Experience in the composition, packaging, and deployment of containers, images, and Helm charts
  • Experience in designing and implementing distributed systems
  • Experience working within a SAFe/Agile development framework

Additional Information

Expected base salary: $88,000 to $175,000
