This Peer Specialist position is an exciting opportunity to join the Veterans Health Administration team and make a meaningful difference in the lives of our nation's veterans. As a Peer Specialist, you will play a vital role in providing support and guidance to veterans who are struggling with mental health issues, substance abuse, or other challenges.
Key Responsibilities- Provide peer support and guidance to veterans in a variety of settings, including individual and group counseling sessions, support groups, and community-based programs.
- Work closely with healthcare providers, social workers, and other team members to develop and implement treatment plans that meet the unique needs of each veteran.
- Use your personal experience and recovery skills to model healthy coping mechanisms and provide support to veterans who are struggling with similar challenges.
- Participate in ongoing training and education to stay up-to-date on the latest research and best practices in peer support and mental health treatment.
- Collaborate with community-based organizations and other stakeholders to ensure that veterans receive comprehensive and coordinated care.
- Must be a veteran who has recovered or is recovering from a mental health condition.
- Must have at least one year of recovery from a mental health condition.
- Must be certified by a not-for-profit entity engaged in peer specialist training or a state as having met the criteria for a peer specialist position.
- Must have a valid certification as a peer specialist.
This position requires the ability to work in a fast-paced, dynamic environment and to maintain confidentiality and discretion when working with sensitive information. The Peer Specialist will be required to work in a variety of settings, including individual and group counseling sessions, support groups, and community-based programs.
