Role Summary:
The Healthcare Access Coordinator is responsible for welcoming patients and their families, ensuring accurate collection and verification of demographic, clinical, financial, and insurance details during the patient registration process. This role involves entering patient and guarantor information into the patient accounting system, obtaining necessary signatures on forms, and managing the imaging and copying of registration documents.
Key Responsibilities:
- Greet patients and family members with professionalism and courtesy, assessing their needs for assistance, including directions and support.
- Process signed physician orders and conduct online insurance eligibility checks for designated cases, informing patients of their financial responsibilities.
- Provide escort services and directional assistance to patients, families, and visitors as needed.
- Facilitate registration across various patient types, ensuring accurate data entry and adherence to departmental guidelines.
- Collect patient liabilities at check-in, including co-payments and outstanding balances, while providing financial education and referring patients to financial counseling when necessary.
- Validate medical necessity for services and ensure all required documentation is obtained and scanned into the patient accounting system.
- Prepare identification bracelets and labels for patients, assisting with insurance forms and ensuring compliance with HIPAA regulations.
- Assist in the distribution of registration materials and maintain a clean and organized work environment.
- Participate in cross-training initiatives to support various departmental functions and enhance service delivery.
Qualifications:
- High school diploma or equivalent; an associate degree is preferred.
- Prior experience in a healthcare setting, particularly in registration or insurance roles, is highly desirable.
- Strong communication and organizational skills, with a focus on accuracy and attention to detail.
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced environment.
