Job Summary

We are seeking a highly experienced and skilled Survey Party Chief to lead our land survey crew. As a key member of our team, you will be responsible for planning, directing, and coordinating the activities of a survey crew to support a range of land surveying and related services for federal, state, and private clients.

Key Responsibilities
  • Team Leadership: Provide day-to-day supervision of a survey crew, ensuring that all work is conducted in accordance with highest professional standards and company policies, procedures, and programs.
  • Project Planning: Participate in in-house project planning and schedule development, responsible for fulfilling schedule obligations and consulting with the supervisor when there are scheduling issues or conflicts.
  • Survey Operations: Conduct topographic, control, boundary, ALTA, as-built surveys, and construction/heavy civil layout for Commercial, Industrial, Residential, and Municipal projects.
  • Instrument Operations: Accurately run survey measuring instruments, including GPS/GNSS equipment and robotic total stations with electronic data collecting.
  • Field Operations: Keep accurate field notes, record all important data, and download files.
  • Client Relations: Ensure client satisfaction in all client relations and perform other job-related duties as required.
  • Training and Development: Direct and lead in the development of new procedures, equipment, and software, and train and mentor instrument operators and other members of the survey department.
Requirements
  • Education: High school diploma or equivalency (GED).
  • Experience: Minimum of 5 years of land survey-related experience, including Maryland-based surveys, boundary, ALTA, and topographic surveys, highway, commercial, and infrastructure construction, bridges, and structural steel.
  • Skills: Robotic total station and GPS/GNSS experience required, ability to download/upload survey-related information in a data collector, and perform necessary calculations to conduct required field work.
  • Communication: Basic proficiency in written and verbal business communications skills, demonstrated proficiency in reading and interpreting contracts, and ability to receive written or oral instructions.
  • Professional Development: Ability to work well under pressure, maintain composure and professionalism in all situations, and establish and maintain effective working relationships with office and field staff.
  • Software: Proficient in MS Office.
  • Licenses: PLS or SIT License encouraged.
  • Travel: Occasional overnight stays and travel to and from assigned field sites.
