General Summary

Granite Construction is seeking a Distributor Driver/Boot Truck Operator to work at one of our Reno/Sparks facilities. The Distributor Driver is responsible for heating and laying prime to prep jobsite for paving crew. Drives truck with capacity of more than 3 tons, to transport materials to and from specified destinations.

Essential Job Accountabilities

* Prime job site for paving crew


* Heat and lay prime


* Responsible for having all permits when transporting all oversized equipment.


* Drives truck to destination, applying knowledge of commercial driving regulations and area roads.


* Prepares receipts for load picked up.


* Collects payment for goods delivered and for delivery charges.


* May maintain truck log, according to state and federal regulations.


* May maintain telephone or radio contact with supervisor to receive delivery instructions.


* May load and unload truck.


* May inspect truck equipment and supplies, such as tires, lights, brakes, gas, oil, and water.


* May perform emergency roadside repairs, such as changing tires, installing light bulbs, tire chains, and spark plugs.


* May position blocks and tie rope around items to secure cargo during transit.



Education

* High School Diploma, GED or equivalent years of experience



Certification

* License required.



Work Experience

* 1 to 3 yrs. experience



Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

Workers should be able to:

* Read and interpret road maps


* Practice good safety habits


* Work in dusty or dirty surroundings


* Follow instructions and meet set standards for hauling and scheduling


* Judge distances and weights accurately


* Make decisions based on verifiable standards.



Physically, workers must be able to:

* Stoop, bend, and crouch


* Use hands, arms, and legs fully


* See well (either naturally or with correction)


* Lift up to 50 pounds, with frequent lifting and carrying of objects weighing up to 25 pounds.
