Responsibilities

Job Summary:
This position is responsible for assessing, administering, and documenting a range of respiratory therapy interventions for both ambulatory and non-ambulatory patients with cardiac and pulmonary conditions within the assigned healthcare facility, including critical care and emergency services. Key responsibilities include: 1) setting up and monitoring complex respiratory devices such as volume and pressure ventilators for critically ill patients; 2) delivering routine respiratory treatments including oxygen therapy, therapeutic aerosols, intermittent positive pressure breathing, incentive spirometry, and airway management, which encompasses intubation and tracheostomy care; 3) observing patients for adverse reactions and implementing corrective measures in accordance with established protocols; and evaluating the effectiveness of the therapy provided, making recommendations to physicians regarding treatment adjustments.
Additionally, incumbents are responsible for providing resuscitation services, participating in various training sessions, offering educational support to students, engaging in quality improvement initiatives, and maintaining skill proficiency to adapt to evolving respiratory care practices.

Essential Job Duties:
Deliver respiratory patient care, including aerosol therapy, arterial blood gas analysis, endotracheal intubation, bronchial treatments, electrocardiograms, chest physiotherapy, ventilator management, and CPAP/BIPAP therapy, adhering to all departmental safety and procedural standards. Continuously assess and evaluate patients' cardiopulmonary status using data obtained from physical examinations, respiratory monitoring, and diagnostic tools.
Accurately document all activities in the relevant electronic systems, including billing information, in line with departmental protocols.
Assist in the transfer of equipment and supplies between departments as necessary; ensure proper cleaning, assembly, and maintenance of respiratory care equipment, and restock supplies as required.

Qualifications

Education/Work Experience Requirements:
A degree from an accredited Respiratory Therapy program is required, along with a minimum of one (1) year of recent clinical experience in respiratory care that demonstrates the necessary knowledge, skills, and abilities. Experience in specialized areas is preferred.

Licensure/Certification:
A valid license to practice as a respiratory care practitioner through the relevant state health department is required.
Current Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT) certification from the National Board of Respiratory Care is mandatory.
Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification for healthcare providers is required.
Respiratory Therapists engaged in hyperbaric medicine must complete a Certified Hyperbaric Training course within 90 days and obtain the Certified Hyperbaric Technician (CHT) certification within 120 days.
New hires in Hyperbaric Medicine will attend the Certified Hyperbaric Training course following the 90-day introductory period. After completing the course and an additional 480 hours of on-the-job training, obtaining the Certified Hyperbaric Technician (CHT) license is required.
