Key Responsibilities
  • Coding and Quality Assurance
    • Review and audit medical records to ensure quality of work and specificity of diagnoses and procedures.
    • Maintain and achieve the highest standards of coding quality by assigning accurate ICD-10-CM/ICD-10-PCS codes.
  • Collaboration and Communication
    • Interact and communicate effectively with coders, physicians, physician extenders, and members of the coding and management team.
    • Collaborate with the manager and other members of the Revenue Management Team to review patient records for accurate coding.
  • Education and Training
    • Participate in coding education and training services to enhance coding skills and knowledge.
    • Take initiative to assist others and share knowledge with stakeholders.
  • Compliance and Regulatory Guidelines
    • Comply with the Standards of Ethical Coding as set forth by AHIMA and AAPC.
    • Adhere to official guidelines and regulatory body guidelines.
Requirements
  • Education and Training
    • Completion of a coding certificate program or Associate's or Bachelor's degree in Health Information Management.
    • Computer literacy, knowledge of Anatomy, Physiology, and Medical Terminology required.
  • Certification and Experience
    • One of the following national certifications: CPC, CCS, RHIA, or RHIT.
    • Four (4) years of relevant hospital inpatient and/or outpatient coding experience.
