Key Responsibilities
  • Perform the functions of a veterinarian, including diagnosing and treating sick and injured animals, prescribing medications, and conducting surgical procedures.
  • Coordinate the scheduling of veterinarians and provide guidance on complex medical and surgical cases, maintaining final authority on challenging medical decisions.
  • Lead and mentor veterinary staff, including veterinarians, veterinary technicians, and animal care personnel, while conducting performance evaluations.
  • Oversee the recruitment, training, and performance management of all veterinary professionals within the organization.
  • Address medical complaints and concerns from clients effectively.
  • Manage the procurement and usage of controlled substances, ensuring compliance with record-keeping requirements.
  • Ensure quality control in both clinic and shelter medicine, adhering to safety, disease control, and OSHA standards.
  • Maintain compliance with Veterinary Practice Act regulations.
  • Meet financial objectives and budgetary goals.
  • Promote Michigan Humane's programs and foster goodwill among clients and staff by participating in fundraising and adoption events.
Qualifications
  • Doctor of Veterinary Medicine (DVM) degree with ongoing professional development.
  • Current licensure in the State of Michigan, with eligibility for controlled substance and DEA licenses, as well as USDA accreditation.
  • 3-5 years of experience in a veterinary clinic environment.
  • Prior management or supervisory experience is advantageous.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications, including Word, Excel, and Outlook.
