Job Description

About the Role

Homes for the Homeless, Inc. is seeking a highly motivated and experienced Housing Specialist to join our team. As a Housing Specialist, you will play a critical role in assisting families with creating an exit strategy and searching for permanent housing.

Key Responsibilities

  • Manage a caseload of families in need of housing assistance.
  • Conduct thorough housing intakes to assess client needs and develop personalized exit strategies.
  • Collaborate with clients to explore housing options and provide referrals and leads.
  • Develop and maintain positive working relationships with DHS staff, brokers, agents, landlords, and community agencies.
  • Schedule and accompany clients to apartment viewings, open houses, and lease signings.
  • Meet weekly, monthly, and quarterly move-out targets to ensure timely housing placement.
  • Conduct monthly housing workshops to educate clients on housing options and best practices.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree or Associates Degree in a related field.
  • At least one year of relevant experience in housing support or a related field.
  • Experience working with brokers, landlords, and community agencies.
  • Ability to travel by public transportation to all 5 boroughs and outside of NYC.
  • Bi-lingual skills a plus.
