Position Responsibilities

The Emergency Communications Coordinator plays a crucial role in managing, coordinating, and executing all requests for assistance involving Life Flight Network (LFN) while adhering to established protocols and procedures. Exceptional customer service is paramount in this role.

Key Qualifications

  • Demonstrated customer service expertise
  • High School Diploma or equivalent
  • Two years of experience in emergency dispatch (police, fire, or medical) preferred
  • Prior experience in air medical dispatch is highly desirable
  • Familiarity with medical terminology
  • Proficient in two-way radio communication
  • Experience with multi-line phone systems
  • Ability to respond swiftly and prioritize tasks in a fast-paced environment while maintaining professionalism
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, particularly via email and phone
  • Basic map reading capabilities
  • Intermediate proficiency in MS Office and general computer skills
  • Emergency Medical Technician certification is a plus
  • NAACS certification required within one year of hire
Core Responsibilities

  • Acknowledge the communication center's role as the initial point of contact for our customers

Request Management: Efficiently receive, assess, prioritize, and coordinate both emergency and routine service requests.

  • Answer multiple phone lines promptly, identifying yourself and the department
  • Screen calls for priority during high-volume periods, always prioritizing customer service
  • Gather and relay essential information for service requests accurately
  • Provide customers with precise estimated times of arrival (ETAs) during initial calls
  • Consider call locations and circumstances for optimal unit assignment
  • Maintain a calm and professional demeanor at all times
  • Independently manage flight requests within 30 days of hire
  • Remain at the console during transport and standby situations
  • Stay on duty until relief is adequately briefed

Documentation: Accurately record events and information related to service requests.

  • Maintain comprehensive and legible records of service requests in the electronic dispatch system
  • Familiarize yourself with available resources and their storage locations

Equipment Utilization: Employ communication equipment and mapping resources effectively.

  • Fully understand and utilize all features of communication and support equipment
  • Maintain and care for departmental equipment
  • Report any equipment issues promptly
  • Conduct basic troubleshooting as needed
  • Stay informed about mapping resources for service request locations
  • Continuously familiarize yourself with service areas

Collaboration: Work with supporting agencies for assistance and reporting.

  • Understand the role of Medical Resource Hospitals within the trauma system
  • Maintain knowledge of trauma care processes in the region
  • Be aware of mass-casualty procedures
  • Foster cooperative relationships with co-workers

Compliance: Stay informed about regulations and policies relevant to LFN.

  • Understand FCC radio communication regulations
  • Maintain knowledge of patient confidentiality rights
  • Be aware of LFN policies regarding public communications

Education and Development: Participate in ongoing training and departmental meetings.

  • Attend departmental staff meetings regularly
  • Review meeting minutes and assist new employees with training
  • Support staff education initiatives
  • Engage in continuous quality improvement activities
  • Contribute to the growth and improvement of LFN services

Work Environment: Maintain a clean and organized workspace.

  • Regularly clean and sanitize your work area
  • Keep the workspace free of non-essential items
  • File resource materials appropriately after use
