Key Responsibilities:
  • Develop and engineer system layouts while conducting shade analysis for feasibility assessments of large-scale solar projects.
  • Create detailed single-line diagrams for various photovoltaic (PV) systems, including rooftop, canopy, BIPV, and ground-mounted installations.
  • Maintain accurate documentation of design changes in accordance with company protocols.
  • Collaborate with external EPCs, design firms, and local authorities to ensure compliance with applicable building and fire safety regulations.
  • Conduct preliminary energy production modeling for financial evaluations and finalize production modeling for performance acceptance testing utilizing PVSyst.
  • Assist with additional assignments and special projects as directed by the Engineering Director.
  • Travel as necessary to conduct site surveys, oversee installation quality assurance, and engage with vendors.
Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical, Civil, Structural, or Electrical Engineering, or a related field, or equivalent educational/certification background.
  • Proficiency in PVSyst, SAM, Helioscope, and Aurora software is preferred.
  • Strong understanding of drafting and photovoltaic techniques, including layer control, dimensioning, scaling, and the use of blocks.
  • Familiarity with engineering terminology and standards.
  • AutoCAD proficiency is advantageous.
  • Knowledge of relevant industry design standards such as IBC, NFPA 70E, NFPA 1, and OSHA.
  • Understanding of solar electric principles.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to organize, prioritize, and manage multiple projects with a keen attention to detail.
  • Willingness to travel 15%-20% of the time for site visits and vendor interactions.
  • A minimum of 1-3 years of experience in solar design with an EPC, developer, or design firm.
Physical Requirements:

The physical demands of this position require the employee to regularly sit, walk, and stand; communicate effectively in person and via telephone; and utilize hands for standard office tasks. The employee may occasionally need to lift or move items weighing up to 25 pounds. Vision requirements include the ability to see both close and distant objects and adjust focus as necessary.
