Job Overview

We are seeking a highly skilled Nuclear Medicine Technologist to join our team at Prisma Health.

About the Role

This variable shift position is available in our Internal Resource Pool - Ancillary Staffing department, located at 7001 Corporate, Independence Pointe. The successful candidate will be responsible for a range of duties, including clinical care, radiopharmaceutical preparation and administration, archiving, and administrative tasks.

Key Responsibilities
  • Clinical Care: Receive, prepare, and provide proper care for patients during performance of clinical procedures; verify patient identification and written orders; recognize and respond to emergency situations; obtain patient history and check for procedural contradictions; maintain and operate auxiliary equipment; communicate effectively with patients and families; select and administer the proper radionuclide/medication by the proper route and in the appropriate dosage; prepare proper instrument, computer, and imaging protocol; understand and implement ALARA measures in performance of clinical duties; evaluate image appearance and perform additional views as required; process and evaluate computer-generated data; obtain samples for non-imaging studies; prepare and administer interventional pharmacologic agents as directed by protocol; perform imaging, non-imaging, function studies, and therapeutic exams; and ensure physical safety of patients.
  • Radiopharmaceutical Responsibilities: Follow correct procedures for receipt and return of radioactive materials; understand and implement ALARA measures while performing radio pharmacy duties; maintain accurate records of doses distributed to patients; accurately label and store radioactive materials in appropriate areas; post appropriate signage; perform quality control on radiopharmaceuticals as necessary; follow directions for proper radionuclide preparations; properly document receipt and disposal of short half-lived and long half-lived radionuclides; prepare and dispense diagnostic and therapeutic radiopharmaceuticals; and maintain strict sterile procedures when preparing human biological specimens radionuclides or cold compounds.
  • Archiving Accountabilities: Maintain accurate records pertaining to exams performed; operate the PACS system properly and verify study prior to archiving; properly place exams on optical discs for long-term storage; and archive accurate radio pharmacy information on patient dose ticket and in appropriate logbook.
  • Administrative Accountabilities: Acquire requisition and check for appropriate clinical information, date, and verify account number and type; charge procedure/supplies in compliance with governing regulations; report equipment problems; and obtain list of outstanding charges, investigate, and explain reason for charges listed as outstanding.
  • Environmental Accountabilities: Maintain a neat, clean, organized work environment; stock work area with linens/supplies as needed; dispose of soiled linens, used supplies, radioactive materials, and bio-hazardous materials; and maintain proper signage with regards to radioactive regulations.
  • Instrumentation Accountabilities: Perform and evaluate quality on all instrumentation; determine operational status and timely calibration of all survey instruments; perform and evaluate dose calibrator constancy test; and record all daily QC checks in their appropriate logbooks.
  • Radiation Safety Accountabilities: Properly store personal monitoring devices; effective use of proper procedures for managing and containment of a radioactive spill; instruct patients, family members, and other healthcare providers of the proper radiation safety measures to be taken after the administration of therapeutic radiopharmaceuticals; follow the departmental and regulatory policies on recordable events and misadministrations; properly dispose of or store radioactive materials and waste; and ensure all radioactive materials sources are to be locked in the hot lab if the department is left devoid of specific nuclear medicine personnel.
  • Proctorship Responsibilities: Instruct students in methodology of nuclear medicine procedures and principles of the science of nuclear medicine technology; closely supervise activity of students; evaluate/document student progress; communicate with clinical instructors or department heads as necessary; mentor newly hired nuclear medicine technologists; evaluate new hires on equipment orientation; and report any deficiencies in education or comprehension.
Requirements

To be considered for this role, applicants must possess an Associate's Degree from an accredited nuclear medicine technology school. Additionally, registered certification in Nuclear Medicine Technology (ARRT (N)) or Certified Nuclear Medicine Tech (CNMT) through the Nuclear Medicine Technology Certification Board (NMTCB) is mandatory. SCRQSA license is also required.

The ideal candidate will have excellent customer service skills, experience working with Philips, and knowledge of office equipment and software such as PACS and EMR. Data entry skills and basic computer literacy are also essential. We prefer candidates with one year of nuclear medicine experience and spect CT experience.

Salary and Benefits
