Role Overview
As a key member of our team at OnDek Solutions, you will play a vital role in supporting communities nationwide in their disaster preparedness efforts. Our organization is dedicated to fostering a culture of preparedness and boosting resilience in communities against natural disasters. We achieve this through public outreach, active stakeholder collaboration, and the development and sharing of resources rooted in research.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Design programs to support populations most affected by disasters, utilizing data to inform your approach.
  • Build partnerships with K-12 schools and youth organizations to expand disaster preparedness programs for young people, empowering the next generation of leaders in disaster resilience.
  • Collaborate with emergency management organizations at the state, local, and tribal levels to enhance partnerships with FEMA Region II, ensuring a unified approach to disaster preparedness and response.
  • Provide training and outreach to community-based organizations and private sector partners to bolster their emergency resilience, equipping them with the knowledge and skills needed to navigate disaster scenarios.
  • Support community initiatives such as Community Emergency Response Teams (CERT) to strengthen and expand local disaster preparedness efforts, fostering a culture of preparedness and resilience within communities.
  • Engage with Whole Community partners like youth organizations, faith-based institutions, private businesses, and disability advocacy groups to promote preparedness at regional and local levels, ensuring a comprehensive approach to disaster preparedness and response.
  • Assist in national and local campaigns, including National Preparedness Month and severe weather awareness initiatives, raising awareness and promoting preparedness among communities nationwide.
  • Update and refine preparedness messages, coordinating with state and local stakeholders to ensure relevance and effectiveness in promoting disaster preparedness and resilience.
  • Work alongside FEMA's internal teams to enhance outreach, preparedness messaging, and media strategies for state agencies, ensuring a cohesive approach to disaster preparedness and response.
  • Provide technical assistance and support to organizations seeking to launch youth preparedness programs, empowering the next generation of leaders in disaster resilience.
  • Support FEMA's Youth Preparedness Councils and their related projects at both the National and Regional levels, fostering a culture of preparedness and resilience among young people.
  • Foster strategic partnerships with state, local, tribal, and territorial preparedness programs to support citizen-driven efforts like Citizen Corps and CERT initiatives, ensuring a unified approach to disaster preparedness and response.

Required Skills & Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree in a relevant field, such as emergency management, public administration, or a related field.
  • 3+ years of experience in stakeholder engagement, program management, or a related field.
  • Proficiency in crafting content for internal and external audiences, including reports, newsletters, and presentations.
  • Advanced skills in Microsoft Office Suite, including PowerPoint, Excel, and Word.
  • Strong public speaking and presentation skills, with the ability to engage and motivate diverse audiences.
  • Experience in marketing or public relations to support communication strategies, with a focus on promoting disaster preparedness and resilience.
  • Demonstrated project management experience, with a track record of leading initiatives and achieving results.
  • Ability to showcase multitasking abilities and examples of problem-solving, with a focus on disaster preparedness and resilience.

Preferred Skills & Qualifications:
  • U.S. Citizenship required, with a background check required for this position.
  • Active DHS EOD/Suitability is an advantage, with a strong understanding of emergency management processes and procedures.
  • Strong problem-solving and critical-thinking skills, with the ability to adapt to changing situations and priorities.
  • Excellent time management and organizational capabilities, with a focus on meeting deadlines and achieving results.
  • High attention to detail, with a capacity to adapt creatively to challenges and ensure accuracy in all aspects of the job.
  • Knowledge of emergency management processes at federal, state, local, or tribal levels, with a focus on disaster preparedness and response.
  • Familiarity with FEMA's role in disaster preparedness, response, and recovery, with a focus on promoting disaster resilience and preparedness among communities nationwide.
  • Completion of ICS 100, 200, 700, 800 courses is preferred, with a strong understanding of emergency management principles and practices.
