Position Overview

The Clinical Pharmacist plays a vital role in ensuring the safe and effective administration of medications within the hospital setting. This position entails accurately interpreting physician orders, dispensing medications, and monitoring patient therapies to enhance overall care quality. Key responsibilities include providing timely drug information to healthcare professionals, reviewing patient medication profiles, and making informed therapy recommendations. Additionally, maintaining appropriate medication inventories for both routine and emergency situations is essential.

Qualifications

  • EDUCATION: A Bachelor's or Doctor of Pharmacy degree is required. Continuous professional development is necessary to maintain licensure.
  • CERTIFICATION/LICENSES: Valid licensure from the New Mexico Board of Pharmacy is required. Ongoing education and certification renewal are also mandatory.
  • SKILLS: Strong verbal and written communication skills, advanced mathematical abilities, and proficient keyboarding skills are crucial. Familiarity with hospital pharmacy software and word processing applications is beneficial. The ability to work collaboratively with medical and nursing staff is essential.
  • EXPERIENCE: Prior experience as a licensed pharmacist is preferred.

  • Reports to: Director of Pharmacy

Work Environment

  • Exposure Risks: Occasional exposure to infectious materials and potential contact with patients who have infectious diseases and hazardous chemicals. Prolonged use of video display terminals is expected.

Physical Demands

  • Ability to work at a rapid pace under high-pressure conditions.
  • Clear vision for reading documents and labels.
  • Hand-eye coordination necessary for aseptic techniques.
