Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled and creative Art Lead to join our team at Central Market. As an Art Lead, you will be responsible for bringing the Central Market brand to life in our stores through the creation of visually appealing displays and artwork. This is a leadership role that requires strong communication and project management skills, as well as a keen eye for design and a passion for food and cooking.

Key Responsibilities
  • Develop and execute the visual merchandising strategy for our stores, including the creation of displays and artwork that showcase our products in a compelling and appealing way.
  • Lead a team of Art Partners to execute art plans and delegate tasks as needed.
  • Train new Art Partners on tasks, materials, and standard operating procedures.
  • Ensure quality control and make final decisions on what art is on brand and aligns with the store's unique look.
  • Assist in the recruiting process to identify and evaluate new talent.
  • Work with store leadership to align on art concepts and plans for evergreen art, departments, and signature events.
  • Manage the art department budget and assist in managing vendor and supplies costs.
  • Create handcrafted, eye-catching artwork and displays to tell product stories and sell products.
  • Serve as a Central Market Brand Ambassador in your store, ensuring all art and event experiences enhance and align with the store's unique look and division-provided event concepts.
  • Research product information to tell compelling stories and confirm accuracy.
  • Conceptualize and create camera-ready painted signs, foam art, and sculptures in various sizes and mediums to promote and help merchandise products.
  • Manage weekly sale sign production, including some attribute signs and pricing tags.
  • Maintain the studio, including weekly cleaning duties, storage of signs and props, and maintenance of tools like computers, printers, and laminators.
  • Research and stay current on different styles and techniques.
  • Coordinate art installation and complex builds with the operations team.
  • Decorate for in-store partner celebrations and events.
Requirements
  • 5+ years of experience in commercial art, freelance, studio work, or a related degree.
  • Completion of the Lead Development Program.
  • Technical knowledge of basic construction and tools like hammers, screwdrivers, routers, jigsaws, and drills.
  • Strong understanding and comfort level with acrylic- and latex-based paints and paint brush control.
  • Understanding of composition, color theory, value (light and shadow), and perspective.
  • Understanding of appropriate uses of glue, adhesives, chemicals, stains, treatments, and solvents.
  • Familiarity with MS Office.
  • Proficiency in Adobe InDesign and Illustrator, on a Mac.
  • Advanced communication and customer service skills.
  • Strong hand lettering skills and painting skills.
  • Strong drafting and drawing skills.
  • Ability to select and use finishes (color, form, scale, texture) that are aesthetically pleasing.
  • Ability to copywrite or source copy, where needed.
  • Ability to complete projects in a fast-paced environment and adapt quickly to business needs; attention to detail.
  • Ability to work in a highly cross-functional, dynamic, and collaborative team environment.
