Structured Cabling Specialist

Position Summary
Under the guidance of the job site Foreperson and managed by the Structured Cabling Superintendent, the role involves tasks associated with the installation of structured cabling systems. Responsibilities include field layout of cable raceways and telecommunication rooms, cable splicing, and managing small projects or segments of larger projects.
Key Responsibilities
- Designs and installs primary cable raceways.
- Installs hardware in telecommunication rooms.
- Splices copper and fiber optic cables and manages system cut-overs.
- Coordinates the installation of horizontal and backbone cabling.
- Provides on-the-job training for Structured Cabling Apprentices at various levels.
- Oversees small projects or sections of larger projects.
- Manages the close-out process for small projects.
- Completes necessary documentation including daily job logs, timesheets, and equipment sign-outs.
- Maintains and safeguards company equipment, materials, tools, and vehicles.
- Responds to emergency service requests outside of regular hours.
Qualifications
Skills and Education:
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Two-year technical degree in Electrical Systems Technology or a minimum of 4 years of experience in networking and voice systems.
- Strong problem-solving and troubleshooting abilities.
- Completion of the BICSI Installer, Level II On-the-Job-Training program or equivalent knowledge.
- Successful completion of the BICSI Installer, Level II examination or equivalent knowledge.
- Familiarity with common electrical instruments (volt, ohm, amp meters).
- Intermediate understanding of telephony installation.
- Intermediate knowledge of local and wide area networking.
- Understanding of telecommunications codes and standards as per the National Electrical Code and ANSI/TIA/EIA standards.
- Knowledge of grounding theory as per the National Electrical Code and ANSI/TIA/EIA standards.
- Basic computer skills and familiarity with Microsoft Office.
- Valid driver's license with a safe driving record.
- Reliable personal transportation to job sites.
- Ability to purchase and maintain required personal tools.
- Willingness to travel nationally to job sites.
Physical Requirements:
- Ability to work 40 hours/week, scheduled in 8 to 10 hour shifts.
- Standing and climbing for 4 to 6 hours/day.
- Kneeling, lifting, reaching above shoulders, and bending for 4 to 5 hours/day.
- Walking and twisting for 2 to 3 hours/day.
- Occasional lifting of weights up to 75 lbs.
- Ability to lift from floor to above shoulder height.
- Repetitive use of hands for various tasks.
- Vision adequate for reading blueprints and color coding.
- Balance for climbing ladders and scaffolds.
- Ability to work in various environmental conditions.
