Radiation Oncology Nurse Job Description

We are seeking a skilled Radiation Oncology Nurse to join our team at US Oncology Network-wide Career Opportunities. As a Radiation Oncology Nurse, you will play a vital role in providing high-quality patient care and contributing to the success of our radiation oncology team.

Responsibilities:

  • Perform baseline assessments on new radiation oncology patients, reviewing medical records and comparing assessment data.
  • Conduct weekly and PRN assessments throughout treatment, monitoring patients for side effects and reporting changes to physicians.
  • Respond to patient calls after treatment completion, performing post-procedure assessments.
  • Implement care plans in accordance with established standards, guidelines, and protocols.
  • Evaluate the effectiveness of nursing interventions and make necessary adjustments.
  • Complete admission assessments for patients scheduled for radiation therapy.
  • Coordinate emergency management and maintain a safe, therapeutic environment.
  • Evaluate patient education needs and provide information to patients and their families.
  • Function as a patient advocate, respecting patients' rights and confidentiality.
  • Act as a liaison between nursing, radiation therapy, and business office personnel to ensure optimal interdisciplinary care.

Qualifications:

  • Graduate from an accredited professional nursing program, BSN preferred.
  • RN state license and current registration with the State Board of Nursing.
  • Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
  • Minimum two years of nursing experience, with oncology experience preferred.

Requires full range of body motion, including handling and lifting patients, manual and finger dexterity, and eye-hand coordination. Requires standing and walking for extensive periods of time. Occasionally lifts and carries items weighing up to 40 lbs. Requires corrected vision and hearing to normal range.

All qualified candidates are required to pass a background check and non-federal drug test (which excludes marijuana) post offer of employment and prior to hire. Candidates will be required to show proof of being vaccinated against influenza upon commencing employment. Reasonable accommodations will be considered on a case-by-case basis for exemptions to this requirement in accordance with applicable law.
