Maintenance Assistant Job Description

The Maintenance Assistant position is a critical role within our organization, responsible for performing a wide range of repair and maintenance tasks to ensure the smooth operation of our facilities. This position requires a high level of technical skill, attention to detail, and ability to work independently and collaboratively under critical time frames.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Perform routine maintenance tasks, including carpentry, electrical, plumbing, painting, and HVAC work.
  • Conduct repairs and maintenance work as assigned, ensuring that work is carried out safely, efficiently, and with minimum disruption to staff, clients, and members of the public.
  • Develop and maintain full knowledge of our site layouts and utilities, and communicate their locations and functions as needed.
  • Operate various facilities maintenance equipment, including steam cleaners, buffing machines, grass cutters, and power tools.
  • Perform vehicle maintenance functions and mechanical repairs for vehicles, including tune-ups, fluid checks and changes, tire repairs and replacements, and filter checks and changes.
  • Assist with maintaining a high standard of building cleanliness in all areas used by our organization.
  • Support the Facilities Manager in completing tasks as assigned.
  • Attend meetings and trainings for the purpose of receiving information on new and/or improved procedures.
  • Maintain confidentiality in regard to all agency and program records.
  • Enter all relevant data into assigned internal and external software applications and physical files as required by agency processes and guidelines and funders.
Qualifications:
  • High School Diploma or equivalent combination of education and minimum of 3 years' experience in craft/building maintenance work with a valid New Jersey State Driver's License.
  • Valid Boiler Operation License.
  • Ability to speak, read, write, comprehend, process, interpret, follow, and carry out instructions spoken in the English language and written in a variety of documents and reference relevant to the job.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively under critical time frames and apply good work habits to effectively complete assigned tasks and contribute to the smooth operation of the program.
