Job Summary:

The Texas Department of Aging & Disability Services is seeking a highly skilled and experienced Recreation Director to oversee the planning, coordination, and execution of recreational activities and events for individuals with disabilities. The successful candidate will be responsible for supervising a team of recreation staff, conducting training and development programs, and ensuring compliance with budgetary and policy requirements.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Plan, coordinate, and execute recreational activities and events for individuals with disabilities.
  • Supervise a team of recreation staff, including training and development programs.
  • Conduct performance evaluations and disciplinary actions in accordance with policy and procedure guidelines.
  • Assist with maintaining all recreation sites on campus, including ordering and maintaining equipment and supplies.
  • Develop and maintain reports and databases, including trip and attendance data.
  • Act as a driver for trips and events as needed.
  • Perform other duties as assigned, including participating in disaster response and recovery efforts.
Requirements:
  • Ability to plan, organize, and conduct large group events and activities.
  • Ability to maintain staffing schedules and prioritize assignments.
  • Proven ability to work harmoniously with others and maintain flexibility in work schedule.
  • Ability to develop and implement therapeutic activities in a group and individual setting.
  • Ability to balance and stay within a budget and maintain purchase card policy and procedures.
  • Ability to communicate problems within the department and develop and maintain reports and databases.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Experience working with individuals with disabilities.
  • Knowledge of facility person-directed planning system, active treatment, and record-keeping policy and procedures.
  • ICF-MR standards knowledge.
