Job Description:

The Water Resources Engineer will work on diverse projects with a team of engineers and scientists, completing water resources and civil engineering tasks. Responsibilities include hydrologic and hydraulic analysis, water quality analysis, and technical report preparation.

Project work may involve stormwater management, flood risk reduction, and hydraulic structure design. The engineer will also work with clients, permitting agencies, and public officials, and may supervise project teams involved in hydrologic/hydraulic modeling, water quality modeling, GIS, and CADD work.

Assignments may require short-term, out-of-town work, either in the field or in another Barr office. The engineer must have a strong understanding of water resources challenges, including stormwater management and flood risk reduction, precipitation and flooding data analysis, and urban and rural hydrologic analysis.

Requirements:
  • Bachelor's degree in civil or environmental engineering with an emphasis on water resources
  • 5 years of water resources engineering experience with a focus on modeling and/or design
  • Project management experience
  • Familiarity with hydrologic and hydraulic modeling approaches and commonly used software
  • Working knowledge of GIS and CADD software
  • Familiarity with water resources data collection methodologies
  • Experience developing detailed design plans, technical specifications, and contract documents
  • Flexible working style and willingness to occasionally modify personal schedule as required to meet deadlines and/or client needs
  • Strong interpersonal, oral, and written communication skills
  • Legal authorization to work in the United States without the need for sponsorship from Barr
  • Possession of a valid driver's license and acceptable driving record
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Master's degree or PhD in civil or environmental engineering
  • Professional Engineer (PE) or ability to obtain one within one year
  • 6+ years of water resources engineering experience
  • Experience with proposal development, client management, or business development
  • Experience with GIS, CADD, and water quality modeling software; hydrologic modeling; 1D and 2D hydraulic modeling software; and Microsoft Project or similar
  • Experience with project cost estimate development
  • Experience with technical writing and presentation
  • Strong technical skills in a broad range of civil engineering topics
  • Experience leading interdisciplinary design teams
  • Experience with site development design and plans and specifications
  • Construction observation, fieldwork, and surveying experience
Work Arrangement:

A hybrid work arrangement may be considered for this position. A hybrid arrangement refers to splitting time worked between a Barr office and a home office. This position is based out of Barr's Bismarck, North Dakota, office.

Some work locations may feature rough terrain typical of construction sites and may also require entering and working in facilities that include limited accessibility, moving machinery, and other conditions typical of industrial facilities. Job assignments may involve work on waste disposal sites and sites requiring cleanup of hazardous materials. An OSHA-mandated physical exam may be required. Safety training will be provided. Applicants may be asked to participate in a drug screening program at the request of specific clients.
