Position Overview:

The Metropolitan YMCA of the Oranges is a prominent nonprofit organization dedicated to enhancing community well-being through youth development, healthy living, and social responsibility. We are currently seeking a passionate and imaginative Art Specialist to lead engaging art programs for children.

Role Responsibilities:

  • Provide direct supervision to a group of children in a seasonal day camp setting.
  • Design and implement art activities tailored to the interests and developmental stages of children in grades 3-5.
  • Collaborate with fellow counselors to ensure high-quality programming in the arts.
  • Encourage creativity, teamwork, and self-esteem through various artistic endeavors.

Key Functions:

  • Plan and execute a diverse range of age-appropriate art activities that captivate children's interests.
  • Guide counselors in teaching art activities and foster leadership among them.
  • Maintain inventory of art supplies and assist in ordering as needed.
  • Support the Camp Director in organizing themes and special events.
  • Build positive relationships with campers and their families, fostering a welcoming environment.

Safety and Compliance:

Adhere to all safety standards and protocols, ensuring a secure environment for all participants. Complete all required training sessions and maintain accurate records of incidents and evaluations.

Qualifications:

  • High School Diploma required; Associate's or Bachelor's Degree in Education, Recreation, or a related field preferred.
  • Minimum of two years of experience in youth work, teaching, or recreation.
  • Strong communication skills and the ability to connect with children effectively.
  • CPR and First Aid certifications are essential.

Physical Requirements:

Must be able to engage actively with children in various environments, including standing for extended periods and lifting up to 30 pounds.
