Job Summary

The Foundation Schools is seeking a dedicated and experienced Special Education Teacher to join our team. As a key member of our educational community, you will be responsible for providing high-quality instruction and support to students with special needs.

Key Responsibilities
  • Deliver Specialized Instruction: Employ evidence-based strategies and techniques to provide quality instruction that promotes academic progress and social-emotional growth.
  • Content Area Expertise: Demonstrate knowledge of academic subjects and effectively teach content area using approved curriculum.
  • Communication and Collaboration: Communicate professionally with parents/guardians about students' academic and behavior progress.
  • Lesson Planning and Implementation: Create and implement lesson plans that utilize various teaching methods, including technology, direct instruction, independent study, and group learning.
  • Classroom Environment and Management: Establish expectations for learning, set classroom structure, and maintain a safe and engaging learning environment.
  • Assessment and Evaluation: Use formal and informal observation and assessment tools to determine students' needs and adjust interventions and practices accordingly.
  • IEP Development and Implementation: Participate in the development and monitoring of students' IEPs, BIPs, and FBAs.
  • Grading and Record-Keeping: Grade students' work, document students' work in grade books, and complete grades within deadlines.
  • Professional Development and Collaboration: Attend and actively participate in IEP meetings, reentry meetings, and other meetings with parents/guardians, students, or county representatives.
Requirements
  • Education and Certification: Bachelor's degree or higher in education, special education, or related field; MSDE certification or eligibility required in special education and appropriate grade band.
  • Experience and Qualifications: Two or more years of experience in a special education setting or experience working with emotionally disabled students or children with autism preferred.
  • Knowledge and Skills: Knowledge of IDEA and its specific applications to educating students with special education needs and emotional and other disabilities preferred.
