Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled Regional Underwriting Manager to lead our Midwest Zone team in Primary Casualty. As a key member of our underwriting team, you will be responsible for managing divisional underwriting within the region, establishing and implementing production and profitability goals, and driving business results.

Key Responsibilities
  • Manage all divisional underwriting within the region(s)
  • Establish, implement, and evaluate production and profitability goals
  • Direct accountability for business results in the region(s) with respect to profitability, penetration, and/or volume
  • Partner with the Zonal Underwriting Manager and/or Senior Product Leader/Manager to drive and execute the long-term business strategy for the zone
  • Serve as a technical expert, exercising technical authority with regards to major or multiple insurance product lines within NA Casualty
  • Manage annual budget process for major or multiple insurance product lines within NA Casualty
  • Manage monthly forecasts for major or multiple insurance product lines within NA Casualty
  • Implement tools and strategies to attract and retain top industry talent and develop high-performing teams
  • Identify areas/positions within the region(s) that lack sufficient bench strength and develop and execute development/training/recruiting platforms/plans to address the deficiencies
  • Establish strong relationships with zonal leadership and create mutual understanding of overall parameters and goals to drive effective execution of the business model
  • Interact with all levels of the insurance community
  • Drive a culture that promotes collaboration, diversity, and inclusion
  • Oversee all underwriters within the region(s), including managing and evaluating work, making decisions regarding pay, performance management, development, employment, and staffing
  • Ensure the required standards of governance, systems, and controls, and regulatory compliance are established and maintained
Requirements
  • Strategic orientation, managing vision and purpose, developing organizational capability
  • Strong influencing and communications skills
  • Ability to work across multiple areas of the company and industries
  • Proven track record of success in Commercial Insurance Company, Agency, or Brokerage settings
  • Analytical and quantitative skills; familiarity with actuarial data
  • Knowledge of market segmentation, portfolio management, acquisition, and distribution
  • Experience with budgeting/expense control and managing or leading a team is preferred
