Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Lead Nurse to join our team at the Indian Health Service. As a Lead Nurse, you will be responsible for overseeing the care of patients in a hospital facility setting, preparing work performance plans, and collaborating with leadership to ensure compliance with regulatory standards.

Key Responsibilities
  • Assess, plan, implement, direct, and evaluate the care of patients in a hospital facility setting
  • Prepare work performance plans and coordinate patient care and support activities to ensure smooth hospital operation for admissions, discharges, and transfers
  • Collaborate with leadership to assure compliance with Joint Commission, Centers of Medicare and Medicaid (CMS), and other regulatory standards
  • Develop and implement policies and procedures to improve patient care and outcomes
  • Provide guidance and support to nursing staff to ensure high-quality patient care
Requirements
  • Graduate or higher level degree in nursing from an accredited professional nursing educational program
  • Current, active, full, and unrestricted license or registration as a professional nurse from a State, the District of Columbia, the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico, or a territory of the United States
  • At least one (1) year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade level in the Federal service performing the following type of work and/or tasks
Working Conditions

This position requires the ability to work in a fast-paced hospital environment and to make decisions quickly and effectively. The Lead Nurse must be able to communicate effectively with patients, families, and healthcare team members.
